Michels Breaks Major Campaign Promise on Day One
MADISON, Wis. — Tim Michels is learning the hard way how challenging it is to run a campaign for governor, breaking one of his key campaign promises on the first day of the general election.
For months, Michels has pledged that he wouldn’t solicit campaign contributions because he didn’t want to “owe anyone anything,” and according to his campaign, Michels had “capped donations to $500 because he’s not going to be influenced by anyone in this race.”
Yet not even three hours after primary polls closed, Michels turned his back on that promise. Now, Michels’ campaign says they are accepting contributions of up to $20,000. Promise broken.
Michels has made it clear he will say and do anything to win this race, apparently that even includes breaking a key promise and major component of his campaign that was a regular feature of his appearances on right-wing media.
“If Michels is again breaking his own promises on campaign fundraising, how can Wisconsinites trust him to lead the state?” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “He will continue to flip flop depending on what’s convenient for him. Tim Michels’ radical policies are wrong, dangerous, and he can’t be trusted.”
