“Made In America Day” Reminder: Vukmir, Nicholson Oppose Buy American
MADISON — It may be “Made in America Day” — and by Trump White House proclamation, at that — but Republican U.S. Senate candidates Leah Vukmir and Kevin Nicholson nevertheless remain strongly opposed to Buy American rules that support Wisconsin manufacturers and workers.
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin has focused on working to protect and strengthen so-called “Buy American” rules that ensure that federal tax dollars are spent here in the U.S., supporting American workers and manufacturers — and Baldwin’s proposals have even earned Trump’s “100 percent” seal of approval as steps toward building a robust “Made in America” economy. But Vukmir and Nicholson have nevertheless registered strong objections to Baldwin’s Buy American agenda:
- Leah Vukmir disparages Buy American rules as “big-labor mandates and giveaways.”
- Kevin Nicholson‘s campaign, meanwhile, says that making the federal government Buy American is not “serious” and, without evidence, alleges that Buy American requirements have “disadvantaged American manufacturing” — assuredly a surprise to the number of Wisconsin manufacturers and thousands of Wisconsin workers whose livelihoods are supported by federal government contracts.
