Anti-Choice Kevin Nicholson Announces Campaign for Governor
WisDems Launch AntiChoiceKevin.com Highlighting How Nicholson Would Threaten Access to Reproductive Health Care
MADISON, Wis. — Kevin Nicholson announced he was running for governor today, dashing Rebecca Kleefisch’s hopes of avoiding a long and expensive GOP primary. Nicholson, a failed 2018 Senate candidate, is a threat to Wisconsinites’ access to health care.
During his last failed campaign, Nicholson received a perfect “100 percent” rating from Pro-Life Wisconsin, which confirmed to the Associated Press that Nicholson promised to support all of their demands, including banning abortion “in all cases,” even in cases of rape, incest, or when a mother’s life is in jeopardy.
Wisconsin has seen an onslaught of attempts to pass restrictive abortion laws in recent years. Though abortion remains safe and legal in our state for now, without a Democratic governor to block these attacks, Republicans would be able to pass draconian abortion laws.
It’s not just abortion that’s at stake. Nicholson’s extreme agenda for our health care could:
- Outlaw forms of contraception;
- Jeopardize fertility treatments like IVF;
- Strip access to basic health care for tens of thousands of Wisconsinites, including cancer screenings, birth control, and STD testing and treatment;
- Slash coverage for the more than 2.4 million Wisconsinites living with pre-existing conditions;
- And cut nearly $500 billion from Medicare over a decade.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:
“Anti-choice Kevin Nicholson thinks he should be involved in some of the most personal health care decisions Wisconsinites make. Pregnant people and their families, not politicians, should make their health care decisions. But every single Wisconsin Republican running for governor has staked out the most extreme, divisive position on reproductive health care.
“And it’s not just abortion access that’s on the line — Nicholson’s scorched-earth health care agenda could criminalize forms of birth control, jeopardize fertility treatments for Wisconsinites who are trying to start a family, and slash access to preventive care that keeps people healthy. Nicholson even supports repealing the Affordable Care Act, which would slash coverage for the more than 2.4 million Wisconsinites living with pre-existing conditions.
“We need leaders who believe health care should be accessible and affordable for all, not politicians who will do everything in their power to restrict it. We need to keep Kevin Nicholson away from our health care.”
