Salary: $48,000 – $55,000/annually, generous benefits package
Location: Madison or Milwaukee, WI (Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

The Opportunity: As Compliance Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting in, and owning aspects of WisDems’ financial, budgetary, and compliance operations. Coached and mentored by a team of experienced operations professionals, you’ll assist in the maintenance of WisDems’ operating budget, as well as assist internal staff and county parties with matters related to FEC and WEC compliance. This opportunity offers significant exposure to operational and political experts; a natural curiosity and willingness to learn are essential for growth and success in this role. This position requires some flexible hours and eagerness to assist on any task.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with DPW Accounting and Compliance team to ensure all payables and receivables are properly tracked and allocated to be compliant with state and federal campaign finance regulation. Follow internal controls related to compliance and financial operations, including contribution tracking, expense management, and financial reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of state and federal campaign finance reports and gather necessary disclosure information for contributions and disbursements. 
  • Track non-monetary contributions and expenses and maintain in-kind records for campaign finance reporting.
  • Assist in data entry and maintenance of DPW’s budget under the direction of the Compliance Director.
  • Research and respond to questions about campaign finance law and compliance for DPW subunits.
  • Maintain DPW’s company card platform, reimbursement software, and compliance related task management/tracking workflows. This includes adding and removing users, ordering credit cards, and other administrative tasks related to spend management.
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.

  • Strong Written and Interpersonal Communication – Ability to represent WisDems’ “voice” for compliance related matters when interacting with people and organizations outside of DPW.
  • Independent Work Skills – Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of complex tasks and procedures, can strategically prioritize tasks to maximize time without sacrificing quality.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Campaign Finance Knowledge – Experience working with State and Federal Campaign Finance Regulation and reporting.
  • Accounting/Compliance Databases – Experience using accounting, compliance, or donor databases
  • Customer/Client Services – Experience in a service or support role, addressing and responding empathetically and accurately to the needs of external parties.
  • Previous experience working for a political, legislative or nonprofit organization.
  • Background in general accounting and financial management.
